Guide to Job Descriptions Writing

Updated: Jun 19, 2022

What do you think about the most important things for any leader and CEO to be good at? Thoughts that pop up in your mind would be self-leadership, communication skills, and responsibility. If you realize, these qualities are often being taught in schools or in any motivational speeches.

In parallel, there is this one subject that nobody teaches us about it and can be hard to find a book or any university course on this topic. Before going into the topic, did you notice how an orchestra conductor, the only person without having any sound, can still be heard by the audience on the podium? We can hear how they deliver and through how they have selected people to be in their orchestra. It is about setting the right team for your company or organization and help people achieve the results that are going to make them successful in that particular role.

As a master recruiter, the role is to find the right people as selecting precise talents would ease any job. The best way to bring this off is by writing a job description that attracts the right candidates.

Know What You Need

You do not need to be smart enough for everything about the subject required for a job. Hire someone smarter and better than yourself. Write about what will best serve the organization. An algorithm can be built calculating the chance rate so that the person selected to be successful in that particular role. State the essential reference materials such as functions and duties, qualifications, skills, and knowledge required. This system is used as a supporting tool as it pushes us to be conscious about what goes up in our minds for making a significantly altered decision.

On the other hand, remember that culture changes around the clock. To be able to adapt to an evolving working environment, wouldn’t you encourage hiring someone willing to start from the low and enjoy an enthusiastically extended growth experience?

Be Goal-Driven

Understand current roles and identify them that need to be trimmed or pruned out altogether. Align job openings and descriptions with what your business needs. You will definitely be properly informed if you know what current employees are doing and what they want to be doing. Set a workflow for your hiring process to keep track of your goals in ensuring your most talented recruits remain interested and available.

Know Where These Candidates With “Whispering Talents” Are

Dive into a pool of candidates with a sharp target to find hidden talents that are not only stated in resumes. The intention is to seek a group of individuals related to the role you are hiring for. One of the good decisions of hiring is to implement an employee referral program. Tap into the potential of social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter as these are the tools to recruit passive candidates.

Use Local Language

Produce your job ads in an appropriate language of the market where you are hiring. Avoid limiting languages like gender-biased language and careless language that discourages minority applicants. Vary your employees and include language specifically inviting diverse interests. Be sure you understand the language of the people that you want to hire.

Think About Meaning

Oprah Winfrey once said, “No experience is ever wasted, everything has meaning.” People want motivation, to feel energized, and passionate about what they do. The right fit means that a new hire has room to grow because as the employees grow, so does the organization. Convey your job ads to ensure the roles they are hiring for are quality opportunities for meaningful work, personal growth, and impact.
